Oh I am SO excited!! We are getting a green Quaker! We don't know the sex yet and we can't pick it up until after its weaned (we'll get it around the end of next month), but I've already started buying it toys and goodies for when it arrives! I should have some pictures being emailed to me soon. I'll post them as soon as I do! We're trying to come up with names at the moment. Anyone have any ideas? We're considering Penny if its a girl because our other bird is named Desmond after my favorite LOST character (if any of you watch LOST, you'll get it. ), but I'm not sure... I think I'd like something a little more creative. Also, sorry I haven't been on here in a while. I'm glad the place hasn't died out.

Ohh how exciting!! Im a bit of a Quaker Addict myself! I just abolsoutly love the birds! I have 4 of them! They are great fun to play with when they are h/r pets. YOu will have a ball with yours They can get quite loud at times, and do tend to bond to 1 person, so if use are a family, try and take equal roles to do things for the birds, e.g cleaning, feeding, e.t.c

I am a little worried about the bonding to one person thing; We have the same issue with Desmond (our conure). I'm unemployed at the moment and I spend all day at home, most of it with Desi on my shoulder and talking to him. My fiance (Michael) works all day and doesn't spend a lot of time with him. He talks to him a lot and Desi seems to just love that, and he seems to like him well enough. The problem is that Desi doesn't take Michael seriously AT ALL. lol Michael will tell him to step up to get off of his shoulder or somesuch, and Desi just looks at him like "Who do you think you are?", then bites him and runs away from his hand, giggling. He also loves to bite Michael's ears because it makes Michael laugh, but Desmond gets so riled up and excited that he becomes vicious towards both of us when its time to get him off Michael's shoulder. With me though, Desi listens to me when I tell him no (when he's biting or acting like he's going to try and fly off his cage) and he knows by the tone of my voice that when I mean business. And he also loves to roll over on his back in my hand and to have me hold him upside down (he LOVES being upside down!), and he won't let Michael do that. Anyway, I'm worried that Michael will be sad that our new bird may bond to me like Desmond has. But really its his own fault for not making an effort to work with Desmond more. Just makes me feel a little bad. Oh, and I think we've settled on the name Sprout.

haha heres an idea...get both a blue and green quaker...you can have the green, and your hunny can have the blue!!! lol.
but congrats. a fun way to do names is to look up names of diff origins and their meanings. but i would wait till you got your new baby and find out its personalitily.
and my green cheek is like yours. she can be such a sweet baby to me...but nasty and nippy to mom.
good luck!

This is technically our second picture of the babies, but the other one is way large and I haven't shrunk it down yet. Not sure which of these is our baby, but they're all SO CUTE! I love how little and fluffy they are! If I could afford it, I'd probably take them all (probably good that I can't afford them, for the sake of my fiance and I's sanity. lol). I think we're settled on the name Sprout, though I agree that we won't really be certain until we get to know the little guy/gal. I showed Desmond the picture we printed out, and he tried to tear it up. Not sure if that's a criticism of his soon to be playmate, or just that he likes to toss paper about. lol More likely the latter.

Our baby will be ready to come home within the next week! And we found out that its a boy! We are so very excited. I got a list of his favorite foods from the lady that we're getting him from, and I've been buying toys and a new rope perch so him and Desmond will have plenty to do. lol I'm so excited! Latest picture: Favorite foods include apples, cheerios and strawberries. She also list 'veggies' but didn't give me any specific ones... Does anyone have any veggie suggestions? Desmond likes shredded carrots, broccoli, and peppers (fresh and in salsa! He loves homemade spicy salsa! ) but I'm not sure what other veggies they might like.. A bird rescue group that I'm acquainted with said that their parrots really like bok choy and sweet potatoes and that those are very good nutritionally, but I've never eaten either of those things personally. I'm not sure I even know what bok choy looks like, let alone how to prepare it... Suggestions?

So, I need help coming up with a new name for our Quaker... The lady says that he's a big boy and is getting pretty bossy. She also says that he is proving to be extremely smart (and has figured out how to escape his current cage). So, I don't think "Sprout" is going to fit him too well. lol Any ideas?

what about einstein (spelling?) thats cute! lol
and i would be careful putting them both in one cage. they might bond to each other and not care about you. i had parakeets that did that to me and i was heartbroken. so my girls each have their own cage.
cant wait for the pics next weeks!! congrats to you and the crew!!

Caesar is home! And we are already in love with him! The lady was right; He is way bigger than his brothers and sisters. She said last weigh in he was something like 138 grams. He also seems to be fearless! Caesar Desmond and Caesar Caesar, exhausted from his big day. Desmond decided that he was tired of not being the center of attention. I had no idea that Quakers make this cute purring noise! That is SO CUTE. He was doing it while he was on my shoulder and I was making their lunch. Also, while Desmond is rather finicky about what he eats, Caesar will eat anything you put in front of him. lol
