At 6:28 today, Saturday the 30th of August, Sherbet died. It was sudden - Very sudden. I know precisely what I mean when I say “he was fine” just moments before. I had checked on him, he was hanging upside down on the roof of his cage; he flapped his wings and made his usual vocal greeting. I stroked his feathers and he nibbled my thumbnail. Little did I know it would be for the last time. I left the bird room to sit with my siblings in the “other family” room. Shortly after I heard a commotion and the tiels started screaming as if something terrible was happening. I rushed back and checked all the cages. That’s when I saw his beautiful green plumage in the corner on the floor of his cage. Sherbet had broken his neck. I don’t know how or why. My beloved bird – the one I rescued a little over a year ago – has left me.
I try to remember this little quote, but it still hurts:
“Death is not as some believe. It is merely walking into another room” ~Thomas S. Monson

I'm doing alright, I guess. I'm a little worried about Ani, though . . . I may have to start a search for another lovie to keep her company when I'm not able. A friend told me yesterday that they just got some lovebirds in at the local pet store so I might drop by there. I miss Sherbet terribly, but people keep telling me that I'm "handling this very well" . . . I'm not entirely sure what that's supposed to mean, though.

death is a very hard thing to deal with for anyone, people just deal with it in different ways. when it comes to us "crazy bird people", our birds are our flesh and blood kin (in my case, my kids) and it hurts so badly to lose anything that you love. you get so used to having it there, then when its gone, it leaves a big hole behind, and you dont know what to do. with my girls, i am such a paranoid momma...one little sneeze that shouldnt have happened and they are getting a full exam from me. lol. i dont know what i am going to do with myself when i lose my girls. so i am enjoying all the time i have with them. just the other night, alli made a new noise (she doesnt talk in words, but mimmics my sounds) and i put her on my shoulder and put my ear on her back. i was wanting to hear her new sound better, but instead i heard her little heart beating, and that is a sound i will never forget. just cherish everyone that is in your life, wether is be bird, beast, or man, and you wont have any regrets or ill feelings when that person leaves. *hugs* hoped i helped some. take care hun.

As you probably all know, I got a little dutch blue lovie after Sherby's death . . . but she didn't work out at all. So she goes back in April. However, as crazy as this sounds, I now have my Sherbet back. A while ago was scanning the local classified ads when my eye caught an ad for a "cute lovebird to VERY good home." This little joy looks exactly like Sherbet. I named her Starburst and already Anica and her are getting along beautifully. She has so many of the same character traits as Sherbet that I am positively in love. If I didn't know better, I'd say Sherbet really has returned in the form of Starburst.
